Rivers War: After 20 Years Finally Rotimi Ameachi And Governor Wike Agrees Politically.

The political disagreement between Governor Wike and Rt. Hon. Rotimi Ameachi is squarely traceable to 2011. Estimated twenty years ceteris paribus.

The problem could have been hatched after, Rotimi Ameachi’s choice to restructure his cabinet. In his second tenure (2011-2015). Governor Wike prior to that moment was politically settled with Chief of Staff.

Wike WS surely compensated for his effort to ensure power legitimately returns Ameachi after the K-leg phenomenon from Hon. Celestine Omehia. Celestine Omehia’s tenure lasted for months before supreme court declaration that up turned his 2007 electoral victory.

However, 2011 marked a major turning point in the political friendship between Ameachi and Wike. 

The first major issue was the choice of Wike (upland) as Honorable for State (Education) against Ameachi’s choice candidate Arc. Tonye Cole. Ameachi (upland) wanted Tonye Cole (Riverine) based on Riverine and upland dichotomy issue. But, President Goodluck Jonathan albeit settled for Wike which started the political beef in Rivers State.

Since then, the state has not recovered from the political power show between Ameachi and Wike. Also, not forgetting, the second most important discrepancies between Ameachi vs Patience Jonathan (Affiliate of Wike) over the demolition of waterfront houses.

The Federal election of 2015 introduced political tension over the succession of Ameachi as Governor. The issue of “Federal Might” came to front burner. Wike (The Hon. Minister, favoured by Abuja factor) and Ameachi (The Governor, favoured Hon. Dakuku Peterside). The matter which went Wike’s way. Albeit, with too many political intrigues and tensions. The prevailing issue of political disharmony also cascaded into political war in 2019.

A situation many do not believe is real but an “Ikwerre Agenda”. But the colossal lost of property and lives implies otherwise that truly there exist none fictitious political disagreement amongst the erstwhile political associate. Not forgetting, Ameachi (Speaker) and Wike (Obio Akpor LGA Boss) were products of Dr Peter Odili’s Dynasty.

But, the situation in Edo state had shown for the first time since 2011, Ameachi and Wike have agreed politically. A situation that has been pretty difficult. The political agreement between Ameachi and Wike is on the candidature of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

This agreement is in spite of the political party difference. Rotimi Ameachi had joined forces with Governor Obaseki to remove Adams Oshiomhole which didn’t succeed until the pronunciation of the Appeal Court Ruling. Ameachi is in full support of Obaseki. Ameachi’s crony in the person of Victor Giadom had suspended the disqualification process which Governor Wike had exasperatingly kicked against hitherto.

Thus, making Ameachi and Wike to agree on Governor Obaseki’s second tenure bid. This agreement albeit perhaps is coming as a shock. A political scenario which many think is impossible and at the other end welcoming. Could this agreement in Edo State cascaded into Rivers State?
