‎
‎The Anambra State Police Command has recovered a six-round English-made pistol from two men during a stop-and-search operation in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.
‎
‎The recovery was made on the evening of Sept. 26, when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Nnewi Sector, working alongside personnel of the Police Mobile Force, PMF 54, stopped two men travelling on a Tiger 150 motorcycle without a registration number.
‎
‎According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the joint team was conducting a visibility patrol within Nnewi North metropolis when the motorcycle was stopped and its occupants subjected to a search. The suspects were identified as Ekwulugo Chiemierie Joseph, 33, and Enyiobi Geoffrey Somtochukwu, 29. The firearm was reportedly recovered during the search, after which the two men were taken into police custody.
‎
‎SP Ikenga said the suspects were assisting the police with ongoing investigations to determine how they came into possession of the pistol, where it was obtained and its intended purpose.
‎He added that investigators were also examining other circumstances surrounding the recovery, including possible links that could provide further leads to the investigation.
‎
‎The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the recovery underscored the importance of police visibility and coordinated stop-and-search operations in the fight against crime.
‎
‎The commissioner explained that such operations form part of the command’s intelligence-led and community-based policing strategy, particularly in detecting and disrupting the movement of firearms and other dangerous weapons that could be used to facilitate violent crimes. He assured residents of Nnewi and Ndi Anambra that the command would sustain proactive patrols, intelligence-led operations and strategic stop-and-search activities across the state.
‎
‎CP Oji Ama also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide the police with credible information about suspicious persons, movements or activities in their communities.
‎
‎The command expressed appreciation to Ndi Anambra for their continued support and cooperation, while reiterating its commitment to working with residents to maintain peace and security across the state.
