Anambra Born Philanthropist, Chief Osita Reuben Agina has built and handed over a magnificent church building to the Anambra state command of the Nigeria Police.

The commissioning of the church building attracted men and women of goodwill as he ceased the occasion to express profound gratitude to God for the gift of a chapel at the state police headquarters Awka.

The ground-breaking ceremony, which took place at the weekend, was also a veritable platform for police officers in the Christendom to extol the marvellous works of God especially for the provision of a befitting place of worship while thanking Him also for such divine providence through the donor and benefactor, Chief Osita Reuben Agina.

Agina said he built the church because there was none at the state police headquarters Awka. He said he didn’t build the church because police were his friends but because the church would help to win more souls for God as well as re-dedicate them to Him.

He said, “What motivated me to build this church is that I haven’t visited any police headquarters in Nigeria where I saw a church. I only see mosque and it seems as if it is only one denomination that knows God.

“I intend to achieve seeing them converted and living exemplary lives; having human sympathy in them and performing their duties as and when due and let God protect them during their official duties.”

The philanthropist also stated that he had replicated the same project in Oba his country home in Idemili-South local government area of Anambra state, but that the project suffered acute lack of water which prompted him to provide a gigantic borehole water facility in the area.

His Grace, the Most Revd. Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim, Ph.D, Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop Diocese of Awka Anglican Communion, who officiated the maiden church service at the new chapel, said the church building was a huge investment in the vineyard of the Lord.

Ibezim noted that the job of the officers of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies required prayers and spiritual supports, which according to him, was the reason the church building was situated at the state police headquarters.

The Anglican prelate, who buttressed his statements with a biblical quotation, said that “Philippians chapter 4 verse 13 says that they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them. In other words, despite the challenges we are facing today, they can still have time to come and pray and also surrender their lives to Jesus Christ.

“Through this church which we have dedicated, souls will be won to the kingdom of God. Healing will come to families and those that are distressed will be comforted.”

He therefore commended Chief Osita Reuben Agina for a job well done and prayed that God should replenish his pockets as well as bless the works of his hands while calling on other rich Nigerians to identify with the police, noting that when chaplains are built in police premises, they help to save lives.

The state police commissioner CP John Bassey Abang represented on the occasion by ACP Festus Irorere thanked Chief Osita Reuben Agina for extending his philanthropy and humanitarian disposition to the state police command.
