Philanthropist, Ndigwe, gifts scholarship to indigent students in Awka

An Awka-born philanthropist, Prince Emeka Ndigwe, has paid tuition fees of twenty-three indigent students in Awka, Anambra state

The beneficiaries were pupils of Agulu Awka primary school, Community primary school Ayom’ Okpala and Nkwelle primary school, all in Awka South local government area, Anambra state.

www.odogwublog.com learnt that the outreach was the third since inception, having previously paid school fees of 171 children in his first of such exercise before another 83 in the second programme.

Speaking during his separate visits to the schools, Prince Ndigwe emphasized that the gesture was to lessen the burden of parenting and improve child access to basic education especially those from the poor background.

His words “I was led by the spirit to go and pay for one or two pupils during my birthday this year, but when I encountered the Head Mistress of a school, she told me how she wished such benevolent act will come.

“I took it upon myself to start soliciting for funds from my friends and colleagues on my social media handles and they responded remarkably.”

According to him, the tuition fees were not only sponsored by him but by well meaning individuals which included Hon. Felicia Okika, Mrs Uzuagba and another individual who chose to be anonymous.

Prince Ndigwe, an indigene of Umuayom n’ Okpala village, hinted that the gesture will not end at payment of tuition fees, but hopes to establish foundation that will render selfless help and services to humanity.

In their separate remarks, the Headmistresses of the schools, Mrs. Azodo J.M and Mrs. Nwokolo Rose represented by a staff, Mrs. Susan Enekwechi expressed gratitude to Ndigwe and friends for deeming it fit to help humanity. 

According to them, the gesture will relieve parents of the hardship of paying their children’s tuition fees and would also encourage the fatherless who are struggling to meet-up with the demands of their education.

They further encouraged well-meaning Nigerians to imitate the gesture as educating a child is tantamount to educating a nation.
