PDP Government Will Build the Greater Awka City

PDP Governorship Aspirant, Dr. Ifedi Okwenna said, the incoming PDP government will build the Greater Awka city, which according to him shall be inclusive of Awka South and North Local Governments. The building of Greater Awka city shall be inline with the specifications of UN-Habitat designed Structural Masterplan for Awka capital city.The project according to him will help to restore sanity in the city planning and guide her growth into the future.
Dr. Okwenna stated this at a Stakeholders meeting which took place in Mgbakwu, Awka North Local government.
The Ugwumba Osumenyi, while informing the stakeholders of his aspiration to run for the office of the governor of Anambra State stated, “Anambra State cannot aptly be described as the Light of the nation when our government, after 30 years of creation, still operate from a rented ramshackle camp yard abandoned by Lordgiana Construction company, that constructed the Enugu – Onitsha Expressway in the early 1980s”. He said that building a planned capital city with a permanent Government House, ensuring the availability and functionality of essential infrastructure and services for Awka capital city and environ are very essential, if we must make our State a prime destination.
Dr Okwenna lamented the extent of Government neglect of Awka North Local Government. He said the Local Government is like a conquered and abandoned area despite most parts being within the Capital city. He said, Anambra State Urban Development Board (ASUDEB), has elected to abandon her supervisory roles on that part of the Capital City thereby allowing developers to build indiscriminately in parts of Isuaniocha, Mgbakwu, Amansea, Okpuno etc.
The former Commissioner for Environment, Mineral Resources Science and Technology, promised that as the State Governor, he will review and restart the implementation of the provisions of the Awka Structural Masterplan, open up and interconnect most landlocked agrarian communities of Awka North with good network of roads and ensure the establishment of Farm Estates in the rich, arable lands of the Awka North local Government. He promised to build a bridge to link Awka North with Anambra East and Ayamelum Local Governments, as part of the Trans Anambra Highway project.
Welcoming Dr. Okwenna and his team to Awka North, former Anambra State Commissioner for Environment and Ecology, Chief Nkwo Nnabuchi, thanked him for his tour of Awka North and for speaking frankly to them. He stated his disappointment for PDP’s then lack of organisation in the State that made some of them to exist the party, hoping that the mistakes of yesteryears which made the Party to lose the State to APGA, would have been avoided this time.
Chief Nkwo Nnabuchi commended Dr. Okwenna’s experience and practical knowledge of the challenges of the State, the sentiments he expressed about the neglect of Awka North by various governments in the State and his elaborate plan to develop and grow Anambra State.
He pledged their support and ask God to protect him and direct his aspiration. PDP stakeholders at the meeting pledged to work for the emergence of Dr. Ifedi Okwenna as the party’s flagbearer in the coming Governorship elections and him becoming the next Governor of the State.
