A political group in the South-East has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in the zone to adopt Sen. MAO Ohuabunwa as a consensus candidate for the National Secretary.

The group, called PDP Rescue Mandate, gave the advice in a statement issued by its Coordinator, Mr Henry Okeke, and Secretary, Okechukwu Okafor, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia on Monday.“We tipped Ohuabunwa for the position because he has the competence and national clout to deliver as PDP national secretary, which is zoned to southeast.“We have taken time to search for a capable hand in the zone with the national appeal to go for the position.“After a long search, we became convinced that Ohuabunwa has the capacity and charisma to deliver.“Southeast PDP has to field its best for the position of national secretary because of the enormity of the task involved.

“Ohuabunwa has the proficiency and wealth of experience to bring to bear in repositioning PDP to take over as the ruling national party,” the statement added. The group further argued that since Abia and Enugu states were the only PDP-controlled states in the zone, the most qualified person from the area should be considered for the job.It stated that Ohuabunwa was eminently qualified for the position, having been a Majority Leader, House of Representatives and  Leader, Southeast caucus in the National Assembly (1999 – 2007).

It further stated that Ohuabunwa, who represented Abia North (2015 – 2019), after two-term in the  House of Representatives, had the experience and exposure needed for the office.

“He has also remained a loyal, commited and dedicated PDP member since inception.“Both in good and odd times, Ohuabunwa never left PDP.“The position of national secretary of the party should be for trusted party loyalists like him and not those, who jump from one party to another,” the statement added.
