PCRC Celebrates 40 years anniversary in Grandstyle

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), South East has rolled out the drums in celebration of Forty years uninterrupted existence in the zone with call on the citizens to team up with the police to expose criminals in the society.

They however called on the Nigerian police and the entire community to entrench the principles of partnership and mutual respect geared towards building a secure and prosperous society.

Speaking during the celebration held in Awka, Anambra state, the National Chairman of the committee, Mogaji Ibraheem Opaniyan reassured the society of their readiness to keep the society free from all manner of crime and criminality in the society.

He used the opportunity to pour encomium on the Minister of Police Affairs and the Inspector General of Police for given the committee a conducive environment to operate.

Mogaji further implored the public to stop the hatred on the police and see them as friends of the society.

” Let us stop the hatred on the police for whatever we crave for can easily be achieved through dialogue and not by incessant killings, kidnapping, economic sabotage as witnessed on Monday sit-at- homes.

“PCRC in south west is leading in Nigeria followed by the South south and North east .

“That criminal you are hiding in the name of your brother is not your brother ,expose him. That is what they are doing in the North east

“You can be above the North East zone if you work in unity. Majority of what we have in South West are your sons and daughters.

The National Vice Chairman , South east zone , Dr Okafor Godstime Onyekachi in his speech revealed that the committee was established in 1984 by the former Inspector General of police , Etim Okon Inyang .

I am privileged to reap the fruits of our collective efforts in enhancing public safety and promoting community police synergy.

“Over the years, our dedication to bridge the gap between law enforcement agents and the public has yielded significant improvement in trust, cooperation, and crime prevention.

” This occasion is not merely a celebration of our past achievements but a reaffirmation of our commitment to continue building stronger , safer and more resilient community. It is a testament to the tireless work of our members, the support of police force and the active participation of the community.

” I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the stakeholders, including the police officers ,community leaders and volunteers who have contributed to the success of the PCRC.

“Your efforts have been instrumental in ensuring that our neighborhoods are not just places of residence but thriving communities where everyone feels secured and valued.

“As we commemorate this significant milestone ,let us also look forward to the future with optimism and determination .Let us renew our pledge to work collaboratively, embrace innovative strategies ,and remain steadfast in our mission to enhance the quality of life for all residents in the south east zone.

He therefore i urged every member of PCRC, the police force and the community at ledge to recommit themselves to the principle of partnership, trust ,and mutual respect.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 13, who was represented by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, Josephine Ihunwo who congratulated on their 40th anniversary and urge them to live up to expectation over the years.

Commisioner of Police Anambra state, Nnaghe Obono Itam, congratulated the committee on their anniversary and thanked former Inspector of police for his initiative .

“PCRC is not Community policing , the good thing in police act as ammended is that the structure PCRC and Community policing is meant to do are all specified there . They are not the same , He said.

“PCRC is for cooperation while community. policing is. not for corporation. Community policing are men amd women who are trained to work with the police as police men , the only thing they can not do is to prosecute and do investigation.

“Take the advocacy to cause the police to implement the country policy that already been enacted into law.

An award of PCRC Grand patron was given to Surv. Sir Chigbo Ejike Okeke and Chief Tochukwu Emmanuel Kpajie respectively for their immense contributions to the Police community relations committee.

In their reactions said the Award that was given to them will motivate them to do more and urge members to take the aims and objectives of the PCRC seriously.
