OWSD UNIZIK Chapter Celebrates Distinguished Female Academics

The Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Chapter Awka, on Friday, 19th November 2021, celebrated the institution’s Female Academics, www. odogwublog.com reports.

According to the President of OWSD, UNIZIK Chapter, Prof. Cordelia Ifeyinwa Ebenebe, the event which attracted OWSD South East Coordinator, Prof. Nkiru Orji and other Chapter Presidents from Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam and Tansian University Umunya, was to recognize some women in the institution for their outstanding contributions to Science and Technology as well as to inspire young and upcoming female scholars in Sciences.

The categories of Women honoured are Those that made it in the UNIZIK List of First Hundred Scholars, Those that attained Fellow status in their Institutes and Professional Association from 2019 to 2021 and Those that received Grants/Scholarships.

Prof. Cordelia Ifeyinwa Ebenebe, Prof. Ifeoma Enweani-Nwokelo and Prof. Miriam Iwueze were the three academics in the institution’s First Hundred Scholars. Prof. Cordelia Ifeyinwa Ebenebe heads the list of 14 scholars that became Fellows of their Institutes and Professional Bodies. Others are Prof. Angela Chinyelu Ekwunife, Prof. Lizzy Okoyeh, Prof. Valerie Chinedu Nnodu, Prof. Edith Uzoma Umeh, Prof. Ifeoma Enweani-Nwokelo, Prof. Theresa Nkechi Obiekezie, Prof. Theresa Onuegbu, Dr. Adaora Ogbuagu, Dr. Uche Ekpunobi, Pharm. Izuchukwu Loveth Ejie, Prof. Nneka Agbakoba and Prof. Dame Edna Chukwura.

The Chairperson, UNIZIK High School Parents Teachers Council (PTC) and Lecturer in the Department of Zoology, Dr. Ogechukwu Aribodor alongside 20 other women were honoured in the Category of Women that attracted Grants/Scholarships for their academic prowess to their respective Departments, Faculties and the University at large.

www.odogwunlog.com reports that among the dignitaries present at the occasion were Provost, College of Post Graduate Studies (CPGS) UNIZIK, Engr. Prof. Philomena Igbokwe; Associate Provost (Science) CPGS, Prof. Angela Ekwunife; Director of Linkages and Collaboration, Prof. Ifeoma Enweani; ASUU Chair UNIZIK Chapter, Engr. Dr. Stephen Ufoaroh and a member of the 9th UNIZIK Governing Council, Prof. Nkechi Nwokoye who also represented the Wife of UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Chinyere Esimone.
