Osun 2022: West group makes case for Senatorial District to produce next Governor

Plans to intimate leaders of Thought, Traditional Rulers, Political Class of the Zone

As 2022 governorship election is gathering momentum in Osun State, a Pressure group, Osun West Peoples Agenda(OWEPA) has advocated for Osun West Senatorial District to produce the next Governor of the State, throwing its weight behind the clamour by the people of the zone to produce the next Governor of the State comes 2022.

It stated that the group had concluded plan to write a letter to intimate the credible traditional rulers, leaders of thought and politicians from the zone on the need to ensure that the two major political parties of ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to pick their Governorship candidates from the Senatorial District.

It stressed that the Senatorial District had experienced and credible people that could lead State to an enviable height.

It listed the potential Governorship aspirants from the two major political parties that could be the flag bearer of their political parties from the Zone as; Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, Alhaji Abdulfatai Akinade Akinbade, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Prince Dotun Babayemi, Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Mr. Bamidele Adeleke and host of others.

It disclosed that the call became imperative because of political and social marginalization of the area by the two zone who previously occupied the exalted position of governing the State, citing Iwo-Osogbo road, old Ede/Water -Works-Osogbo and other roads in the area turning to campaign gimmick in-Year-in,Year-Out, noting that it was high time for the people of the Zone to take front in governing of the State, instead of last the zone used to take since return of democracy back to the Country in 1999.

In a statement issued and signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman and copies were made available to Journalists on Friday, he urged the good people of the Zone to jettison selfish political gains by speaking in one voice to realize their objective of governing State comes November 27th, 2022.

Comrade Adeniyi advised the people of the zone to shun politics of bitterness, divisiness and sentiment in order to realize this political goal, stating that anyone from the zone that against this interest of Osun West to become Governor in 2022, should be seeing as self serving and enemy of the zone.

He further urged the concern political class in the area, to activate the political internal mechanism to choose credible, experienced, best and generally acceptable candidates from the zone, in the best interest of justice, equity, fairplay and for the best interest of the good people of the State.

According to him, “political sentiment apart, there is need for the good people of Osun West Senatorial District to correct the political marginalization and injustice meted out to them in the political life of the Thirty(30) year old Osun State. This is high time to correct the political anomaly, let me use this opportunity to explain further to the good people of the district, Osun Central Senatorial District had rule the State for fifteen and half(151/2) years and Osun East Senatorial District rule for Eight(8) years.While Osun West Senatorial District rule for just one(1) year, Ten(10)Months”.

Continue with his analysis to back the group’s position, Adeniyi declared that the Osun West Senatorial District of the State comprises of no fewer than Ten(10) local governments area of the State with over 1.5million out of the total population of over 4million of State.

It would recall that the local government areas comprise of the Senatorial District were; Ayedaade, Ayedire, Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Irewole, Isokan, Iwo and Olaoluwa.
