…Landlords To Decide – Commissioner

By Julie Sylvia, Onitsha

Following Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s determination to make Anambra State Dubai- Taiwan of Africa, and vow to offer #10 million to any street that will complete beautification via painting of houses/planting of flowers, the landlords and council chairman , Emeka Orji, were said to have disagreed on house painting code.

Recall that the landlords were earlier given February 1st to March 10th to embark on the beautification but later extended the date to April this year, to desilt their drainages with planting of trees.

However, in their bid to emerge victorious and go home with the #10 million offer, landlords of Port Harcourt road, Fegge, have reportedly dumped white and sky blue combination code as directed by the council chairman and started their beautification with milk colour and blown combination.

Reacting when contacted the State Commissioner for Environment Felix Odumegwu, was of the view that it is left for the landlords to make their choice and not Council chairman.

He said, “The landlords/residents rejected the white and sky blue colour combination being given to them by the council chairman, Hon. Emeka Orji and decided to go for milk colour and blown colour combination.

“It is the street that will chooce their colour, so samples are being displayed for others to see and make their choice,” he further stated.

Also reacting, one of the landlords of the street, Mr Innocent Ikedigbo, said that, “This is not our colour code, the colour is sky blue and white combination, not this particular one these buildings have, if we are to go by the colour, none has painted, as you can see, there is no building here with that particular colour code.

” To me, I don’t like the colour code but can go with anything apart from white, though I wasn’t around during our last meeting, may be they changed to this, milk colour and brown, white is only good for residential buildings not for the ones with tenants because they will not maintain it especially during rainy season”, he said.

Mr Ndubuisi Onuzulike, the Vice Chairman of Fegge Landlords Association, when contacted pledged to contact Commissioner for Environment adding that the colour code by the council chairman is not colour code agreed for Port Harcourt road.

Mr Ikenna Obi, a Medical laboratory scientist who works in a hospital at port Harcourt road said that he heard that Governor Soludo commended milk colour and blown combination when he was inspecting the road on the day he commissioned it, so from there the residents noted it.
