Onitsha Head Bridge Incident: Police Assure Victims of Support, Order Impartial Investigation

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji, Ama, psc minps, has assured victims of the Onitsha Head Bridge incident of the full support of the Police Command, while ordering a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Addressing the crowd in Onitsha on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the Commissioner stated that the immediate priority of the Command is to ensure that the victims recover fully.

CP Nnanna subsequently visited the victims at the hospital, where he assured them of the Command’s support and pledged to personally ensure that their medical expenses are covered.

The Commissioner further ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident, particularly the circumstances leading to the discharge of the firearm. He stressed that the investigation would establish the facts surrounding the incident and ensure that appropriate action is taken based on its findings.

CP Nnanna appealed to members of the public to remain calm and peaceful, urging them to allow the investigation to run its course.

Meanwhile, the situation around the Head Bridge has been de-escalated, with free flow of vehicular and human movement now restored.
