The Ondo State Government has canvased zero tolerance to cheating and plagiarism in the education sector.

Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Deputy Governor, Ondo State, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos on the sidelines of the University of Liverpool Alumni Reunion.

Aiyedatiwa said that the state government is working hard to ensure that the course work in the educational system in the state meets international standard.

“The Course work should be of international standard because when you produce a graduate at this time when the world has become a global village to compete with his peers abroad, you cannot say that they should lower the standards because the graduate is from Nigeria.

“The school management has realised that in Nigeria. That is why there is the need to further deepen the course work to be of international standards,” Aiyedatiwa said.

The deputy governor said that, as an Alumnus of the University of Liverpool, he remained grateful to the institution for its thoroughness, discipline and academic excellence.

“I remember my alma mater for the richness of the modules taught us and the manner in which we were taught.

“It is second to none.

“You cannot go through the institution’s pedagogy without being thorough bred in the choice of your discipline.

“One of the things that is so memorable which I cannot forget is the rules that guide the presentation of our papers – ‘turn it in’.

“You cannot copy or plagiarise. The moment you submit your work, the system will immediately know if you have copied from someone else.

“The system will make you to study, be creative and be original in terms of your academic pursuit.

“That is one thing so many of us can attest to,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He said that the education policy in Nigeria is gradually being overhauled to comply with international best practices.
