Okoye Varsity, firm sign MoU on construction of students’ hotels in Enugu

Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, on Friday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NAYOPET, an indigenous company based in Abuja, for construction of students’ hostels at its main campus.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the agreement involved construction of four blocks of 5,000 rooms at the main campus of the university in Ugwuomu, Enugu.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Rev. Fr. Christian Anieke, who signed the MoU on behalf of the institution, said that the hostels would accommodate 10,000 students.

He stated that shortage of hostels at the university’s main campus would soon be a thing of the past with the construction of the hostels.

The vice-chancellor said that 50 hectares of land had been approved for the project, while the groundbreaking for the project would be performed on July 13.

According to him, the project is expected to be completed within 12 months.

“In the next one year, we will have enough accommodation for students and those coming to the business park for training.

“It will influence the psychic of young people on the good things they have received in the university,” he said.

Anieke further stated that the building would be constructed and managed by the firm and the university for some time, adding, however, that the institution would not make any refund.

Responding, the representative of the construction firm, Mr Emmanuel Monye, thanked the management of the institution for giving them the opportunity to contribute to its development.

Monye said that each of the four blocks would have 1,250 rooms, with each room accommodating two students.

He said that the rooms would be equipped with all the necessary facilities that would make the students comfortable while on campus.

Monye also assured that the project would be completed within the stipulated period of 12 months.
