Ohanaeze plans to restore security, reinvent South East economy

The apex body of all Igbo socio cultural organisatons worlldwide,Ohaneze Ndigbo said it is making moves to curtail the increasing rate of insecurity in Igbo land through a non kinetic approach.

The organisation also plans to revolutionise the economy of the South East zone.

The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, made the disclosure on Saturday,September 23rd,at an elaborate press held at Ohanaeze National secretariat,Enugu.

The press conference was. to herald the commencement of 2023 World Igbo day,which will come to it’s climax on Friday,September,29,with a posthumous award on late Igbo heroes.

Iwuanyanwu described the increasing rate of insecurity in the South East zone as strange,stating there is hunger and unemployment in the country but that is
not enough to one a criminal,even though not everyone has the capacity to endure hunger.

The Ohanaeze President-General said security of every part of the country is the ultimate duty of the federal government and called for increased allocation for South East governors since they are spending so much money to fight the scourge in the zone.

He said his leadership will equally reach out to those in diaspora alleged to be the sponsors of the killings in Igbo land,using his kinetic approach.

He stated, “As a father, I will call and appeal to everybody to embrace peace and the non-kinetic approach requires everybody’s support both state and the federal go vernment for us to have peace in the South East.

“Whatever sacrifice is made to bring the non-kinetic approach, to bring an end to bloodshed and killing in Igboland, I will do it.

“I am going to reach these people by any means to beg them or even give my life if they want it. I will surrender it to ensure peace reigns in the region.”

Iwuanyanwu said with the support of the South East governors ,the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has produced a blue print for economic development of Igbo land.

According to him,the development plan will involve harnessing of natural deposits in the zone like coal and limestone for industries.Also a network of railway system that will connect the South East state capitals uptowards Northern Nigeria and re inventing agriculture as mainstay of the South East economy.

He lamented that the cost of a drum of palm oil costs more in the international market than a drum of crude oil. Therefore,the reason to get back to drawing board to re invest in palm products,which was abandoned since the discovery of crude oil.

The 2023 World Igbo day celebration continued on Sunday,September 24,with a church service at Good Shepherd Cathedral,Independence layout,Enugu.

The posthumous award on September 29 will be on late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe,Major General Aguiyi Ironsi and ex.Biafra leader,Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu,among others who will be honoured as ‘Grand Igbo heroes.
