OFU MMA will develop youths to international stardom – Organisers

One Fight Ultimate (OFU3), a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Streetfight event, themed “AJ City Rumble”, will go down in history as an event that seeks to develop youths at the grassroots.

The event, held at the Navy Barracks in Ajegunle, Lagos, to commemorate the workers day (May 1) had fighters bringing their best to bear to the delight of the crowd that gathered to watch.

Chief Ife Obiudo, the CEO, OFU, told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) that it gives him pleasure to see young promising fighters in MMA attain great heights in the sport.

He said he is very passionate about the sport because its international status where in the US, Asia and Europe, it’s embraced to be a sport to reckon with.

He also said that with great potentials in Nigeria, he feels it is important to develop and nurture young talents and invest in them to greater heights.

“We have great fighters in Nigeria and the earlier we discover them and help them the better for the youths to make their mark in the international circuit.

“MMA has come to stay and that is why at OFU entertainment, we are motivated to invest heavily in the development of our youths for them to aspire to be greater fighters,” Obiudo said.

He added that the choice of Ajegunle is not a mistake because that is the community that has produced Nigeria’s legendary sports stars in football, athletics, boxing and others over the years.

“The OFU 2022 calendar is already packed with spell-bidding events as we would be organizing another major event on June 10 to celebrate Nigeria’s democracy day.

“On that premise, I am calling on other corporate entities in Nigeria to join hands with me so that we can continue to engage the youths through sports, because the occasion provides a golden opportunity where the youths and the old make a living by fitting into the various callings related to their field of expertise,” Obiudo said.

NAN reports that in a highly-explosive bout, Iheanyi Agoha ‘Sagon Junior’ defeated Nani ‘Young Van Dan’ Chima by a split decision to emerge champion of OFU3 Streetfight for 2022.

In another entertaining bout that kept the teeming spectators spellbound, Victor Dooga, aka Benue Boy, defeated Geoffrey John, aka Skull Cobra, by unanimous decision.

There were three other thrilling bouts that saw six young kick-boxers engage themselves in demonstration fights that also thrilled spectators.

Iheanyi ‘Sagon Junior’ Agoha told NAN that he was very happy to defeat his opponent and that he worked very hard to achieve his set objectives.

He said that he is very confident about the future as his dreams are to attain international stardom someday.

“It’s a great day for me, I thank the organisers for giving me the platform to express myself in my chosen career.

“I look forward to many more fights because I determined to do even better if given many more opportunities like this one,” he said.

NAN reports that all roads lead to the Oriental Hotel in Lagos for the next OFU 4 Democracy fight night which is coming up on June 10. (NAN)
