The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election Mr Peter Obi, has lauded the judgment of the Court of Appeal on the party’s governorship election, Mr Valentine Ozigbo.

Obi, who was said to have attended the court session said: “I sincerely thank the President of Court of Appeal and her team for restoring order  and civility within the polity, so that our political party, People Democratic Party (PDP) and her rightful candidate Mr Valentine Ozigbo can move on with his campaign of selling himself to voters based on issues.”

Mr Alex Ejesieme SAN, lead Counsel to Ozigbo, had argued in the appeal that the judgement of the Awka High Court delivered by Justice Nwabunike was faulty because it was based on a judgement by a Federal Capital Territory High Court which the Court of Appeal had voided.

Following that, the Court of Appeal affirmed Ozigbo as the only candidate for the PDP in the forthcoming November gubernatorial election in Anambra state.

The panel of Justices presided by Honourable Justice Dongban Mensa, also ordered the national electoral body, INEC, to immediately publish Ozigbo’s name as the candidate of the PDP, the main opposition party on its website.

The court awarded a cost of N10 million against Senator Ugochukwu Ubah for being a meddlesome interloper.

The ruling paved the way for the PDP to launch its campaign for the governorship of the south-eastern state.
