The Oba Lawyers Association (OLAS) has honoured the first female Chief Judge (CJ) of Anambra State, Hon. Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu (Rtd) with an Award for Excellence.

The award was presented during a grand Send off reception organized by the group recently at Nelly’s Hotel Oba to extol the Oba born Amazon for her impeccable service and achievements.

Presenting the Award, former Anambra State Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emeka Anyanetu who represented OLAS Chairman- Prof. Ifeanyi Anigbogu said that the CJ emeritus did Oba people proud while in office.

“You have done us proud for your numerous achievements in Anambra State as the first female CJ. Your philanthropy and that of your family is mind boggling.

“Ife di n’Oba–great things are in Oba indeed. You have set records within your limited time in office. As our illustrious daughter we decided to honour you”, said Anyanetu.

OLAS Public Relations Officer, Hon Barr Chuba Oranusi after eulogizing the achievements of Ijem Onwuamaegbu reminded the audience that the first female university graduate of Anambra-Joy Emelummadu was from Oba.

Oranusi a former Chief Whip of Anambra state House of Assembly urged the male folks from Oba to dare to set records as those two women who were outstanding in Anambra State.

In his remark, the Chairman Taskforce on building of Oba Court Complex, Chief Edwin Arinze blessed Ijem Onwuamaegbu for attracting good things to Oba describing her as a leader who seeks the welfare of others.

“God bless our daughter Ijeabalum. I thank Governor Willie Obiano for giving you a new appointment as the Chairman of the Committee to review all Anambra State laws and put in a Compendium.

According to the Secretary Taskforce on building of Oba Court Complex, Chief Chiedu Okeke, “Ijem is first in History, Second in Geography. She attracted a highcourt, magistrate court and customary court II to Oba.

“Oba missed accommodating Anambra airport and Idemili South headquarters and this rele gated us to the background but Ada Oba brought light to Oba community. We are no more unfortunate.

“With her becoming CJ and with people like Chief Boniface Onyeka, Chief Hezekiah Njeako, Chief Edwin Arinze and I to supervise the court building Oba is now urban”, said Okeke.

Moreover, The Chairman of Chairmen Nigeria Bar Association, Anambra, Barr. Benson Ikedigwe while presenting a gift donated by all the NBA chairmen described Onwuamaegbu as an administrator per excellence.

“We are here to join OLAS to honour your Lordship. We enjoyed you while at the bench. Your strength of character and sterling quality will ever be remembered by all of us at the Bar”, said Ikedigwe.

However, in her response Onwuamaegbu thanked OLAS, NBA executives , Judges ,Magistrate and the Judiciary for finding time to celebrate her saying that her success could not have been possible without everyone’s support.

“I thank Governor Obiano who named me ‘ Mkpulumma ‘ for approving all my developmental proposals. If not for him I could not have achieved so much in short a time.

“We commissioned Eight magistrate courts, facilitated payment of Transport, severance, housing allowances arrears, reduced the hiked cost of filing cases. We set a division to recover and secure judiciary property.

“27 new magistrates were engaged; we tried to be fair to everyone and all these were possible because you all were praying and supporting me.
