National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra, on Monday, swore-in a total of 2,207 new corps members for the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 orientation course.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the figure comprised 1,046 males and 1,161 females.

NYSC Coordinator in Anambra, Mrs Yetunde Baberinwa, performed the ceremony at Mbaukwu/Umuawulu Permanent Orientation Camp.

Baderinwa used the occasion to draw attention to erosion activities which, she said, was destroying the landscape of the camp, calling on Gov. Willie Obiano to intervene.

According to Baderinwa, the erosion is seriously threatening the orientation camp in the state.

“A cursory look at the camp reveals that different portions have already been ravaged by the erosion.

“If the erosion menace is not urgently checked, it may destroy the beauty that the camp had attracted in the state.

“We are, therefore, passionately appealing to the governor to expedite action on the landscaping of the premises which is currently under serious threat of erosion,” she said.

The NYSC coordinator stated that the corps members were admitted into the camp with full compliance with COVID-19 protocols, while assuring of the safety of the place.

Baderinwa thanked the government for the support that NYSC had enjoyed in the state, promising that the scheme would continue to complement the manpower demand of the state in specific areas of need. (NAN)
