NSU Finalises Maiden Essay Competition

The maiden essay competition organised by Nanka Students Union (NSU) and single handedly sponsored by Mr Okechukwu Ezeobi, the Managing Director, Bureau of Public Procurement Anambra State has come to an end.

Nanka Students Union is a body shielding all the students of Nanka extraction. The Union will be celebrating her 64 years of existence in September this year.

The final phase of the competition has the presence of 23 students’ representatives from five schools within and outside Nanka environs.

The schools in attendance were Community High School Nanka, Community Secondary School Nanka, New Generation School Nanka, Austica Memorial College Nanka and St Anthony’s Catholic Comprehensive Institute Agulu.

In an interview with Chinwendu Anikam, the Secretary General of the association who also represented the President, Ewezugachukwu Nwankwo, she explained that the competition was the first of its kind and a plus to Nanka Students Union.

She described it as an avenue to mould the students in creative writing as well as an opportunity for students to compete with their mates outside their vicinity thereby improving in internal and external examinations.

“This is the first of its kind, we have been organising debates, quizes among other competitions but decided to try new idea: Essay Competition and this will enable the participants to develop their creative writing skill”.

The Secretary commended the sponsor of the competition Mr Ezeobi for taking up the herculean task of single handedly sponsoring the competition.

She also urged well meaning Nankarians to follow the lead in sponsorship as the association has numerous exciting and educative programs.

The Director of Socials, Nanka Students Union, Ifeanyi Israel Ezeh explained that the competition aimed at testing the students competency as regards to writing and encourage them academically for them to put more value to education as educational system is dwindling on daily basis.

He described the sponsor’s kind gesture as a great impact in life of Nanka Students Union and Nanka Community at large .

The Committee Chairman, Mr Chukwuebuka Nwosu described the event as the tool used for rekindling the creativity in students, especially toward creative writing.

The participants in their separate responses said that this event would enhance their thinking especially on contemporary issues in the society.

They further encouraged other students not to shy away from competitions and make it a priority as they may meet life changing opportunities through it.

Nanka Students Union commended the sponsor of the competition for his selfless support toward the event and prayed God to bless him abundantly.

The Chief Judge, Sir J.D. Anisi who announced the result of the competition. In his speech described the event as worthwhile and a right step in the right direction.

According to him, the current administration of Nanka Students Union has made a lot of unprecedented landmark achievements.

Sir Anisi while thanking the sponsor and organizers, announced the results as follows:
First Position: Ekemezie Chukwuemerie – Austica Memorial College Nanka.
Second Position: Obiekezie Donatus – Austica Memorial College Nanka
Third Position: Kingsley Favour – C H S Nanka
Fourth Position: Divinewill Joy – CSS Nanka.

Prizes were awarded as well and other participants received consolation prizes to support their education.
Light refreshment was also given to
all present.

Indeed, Nanka Students Union under the current dispensation ably led by Comrade Ewezugachukwu Nwankwo has experienced an untold transformation with a lot of human and material developments in place. (MOI)
