The non-indigenes’ group in Anambra State under the auspices of Traditional Leadership of Non-indigenes in Anambra State has rejected one Chigozie Nweke as the recognized President-general of Association of Non-indigenes in Anambra State (ANIAS).
The Traditional Leader of Non-indigenes in Anambra State (Igwe Ndi obia), Igwe Amos Nkwuda told newsmen in an interview in Awka, Anambra State capital, yesterday, that when one Ferguson over-stayed in office as PG of ANIAS snd was pushed out by the Association’s stakeholders, Nweke was appointed to take over power for three months in 2019, with a mandate to set machinery in motion for the conduct of a democratic election at the end of his tenure.

According to him, Nweke failed to prepare grounds for the conduct of the said election, but went ahead to unilaterally perpetuate himself in office as the President of ANIAS for the last five years. He argued that the Igwe’s Cabinet which enjoys superior status, handles security matters and other acts of misconduct of members was not aware of any election that extended Nweke’s tenure after his expiration of the three-month tenure. Nkwuda who joined ANIAS in 2016 complained that his conviction that Nweke is an imposter having not been elected democratically to lead the Association after the expiration of his three months’ Caretaker-ship accounted for his opposition to certify Nweke’s self-styled leadership in a bid to collect certain huge campaign support fund from a Senatorial Candidate in Anambra North Zone in the build up to the 2021 election. Nkwuda who is the founder of Great Ebonyi Indigenes in Anambra State and Ebonyi Leaders of Thought in Anambra State respectively revealed that Nweke has not forgiven him over the non-supportive action and has allegedly started a campaign of calumny, usurping power, position and leadership as to make the Igwe’s leadership “ungovernable ” To show the seriousness of the matter, Nkwuda dragged Nweke to the Office of the Assistant Inspector-general of Police (AIG,) Zone 13 Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Governnent Area of Anambra State to call Nweke to order. The intervention of the AIG followed a petition dated June 4th, 2024 and addressed to the AIG Zone 13 by Nkwuda through his lawyer, Innocent Maikabo entitled, “Petition against Chief Henry Chigozie Nweke for Conspiracy, Cheating by Impersonation, Parading himself as the PG of ANIAS, Usurpation of power by unconstitutional means and Conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.”
The petition noted that the petitioner’s coronation by the parent body (ANIAS) and presentation with meritorious Certificate of Honour to birth the Igwe-in-Council in 2017 as law requires was witnessed by many traditional rulers and/or representatives from 35 states of the federation and elders of the Association. He claimed that Nweke is after his Igweship stool and may leave nothing to chance to achieve his purpose, calling for urgent intervention by relevant authorities. It was gathered that the AIG Zone 13, Aghaulor has intervened and directed both parties to settle the matter amicably in order not to escalate the controversial matter and jeopardize the security of the State in particular. .
