NOA TASKS NIGERIAN STUDENTS ON NATIONAL CORE VALUES

The Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA),Abuja, Dr. Garba Abari, has described the National Core Values as very imperative in raising the Nigerian Students at all levels to becoming responsible, productive and good ambassadors of their father land.

The Director General, who was speaking at a One Day Programme organized by the Agency on National core values for Nigerian Students, held in the Corporate Headquarters of the NOA in Awka, said that the event was of great value to Nigerian government

The Director General, who was represented on the event by Mr. Chibuike Okorie of Orientation and Behavior Modification Department of the NOA headquarter in Abuja, maintained that the future of any Nation is in the hands of the Nigerian youths, hence the programme with a view to putting them in the right perspectives.

He noted that the programme was deemed necessary by the Federal Government to equip the participants with all requisite knowledge of the National Core values which include, discipline, integrity, dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self reliance and patriotism.

He stated that the society has lost sight on promoting the spirit of the National Core values ,hence the exponential increase on youth restiveness in the Country and called on the Parents, teachers and other stakeholders in the education industry in Nigeria to work towards proper engagement of the youths in order to make them become worthy ambassadors of their Country.

According to the Director General, the Agency is making every frantic effort to organize debates and quizz competitions among the Students to further engage them meaningfully to become responsible and productive citizens of the Country with a view to building a strong, better and responsible Nigerian society as desired by all.

In his key note address, the State Director of the Agency in Anambra State, Sir . Joseph Uchendu, affirmed that the issue of the value re-orientation in Nigeria today cannot be overemphasized in a society where social vices, crime ,
religious crisis, injustice, drug abuse, indecent dressing and other deviant
behaviors are the order of the day.

He advised the Students to eschew all forms of social vices such as examination malpractices, cult related activities capable of ruining their future as they work towards acquiring good education without cutting corners.

In a lecture the Acting Head of Programmes of NOA,Anambra state , Mr. Christopher Uzoh ,who spoke on the topic, “National Ethics as key to National Development, “called on the participants to shun get rich quick syndrome and sexual abuse by being serious with their studies to acquire what he described as virtuous education and as well become virtuous individuals in the society.

In another lecture tiled, “Morality in an immoral World :Challenges to Contemporary Youths, “the Deputy Director Planning Research and Strategy,NOA,Awka,Comrade Felix Agbu, charged the Students to always protect their pedigree and that of their family in the Society by remaining focused at all times .

From him, the Anambra State Commander, War Against Indiscipline(WAI), Mr. Francis Nwoye, remarked that the event was organized to get the participants young and to disuade them from indulging in obnoxious activities that could render them useless in the Society.

The event which eas attended by the Students drawn from Saint John of God, Girls Secondary School Awka, Nneoma Secondary School Nibo, Kenneth Dike Grammar School Awka and Community Secondary School Enugu -Agidi among others ,featured interactive season by the students , teachers and other stakeholders.
