NOA & NDLEA In Anambra Have Developed A Favourable Synergy In The Fight Against Drug Abuse .

The Officers of the Anambra State Command,National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Awka, has intercepted a trailer load of emphetamines in the State.

The State Commander of the Agency, Mr. Mohammed .M. Idris, made the disclosure while playing host to the State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Awka, Barrister Charles Nwoji and his team who were in his office in continuation of the advocacy visit by the leadership of NOA to well organized Institutions,Agencies and Organizations in the state.

The NDLEA Commander ,who said that the visit has convinced him that NOA, means well for the society and Nigeria in general, confirmed that at least fifteen percent of Nigerians were on drug on daily basis.

He noted that the issue of drug abuse by greater percentage of Nigerians was very glaring during the EndASARS saga in all states across the country by Nigerian youths.

Mr. Idris, who said that the Command has developed a lot of functional programmes aimed at total reduction of the drug abuse and its associated crimes in the society to include, demand reduction of illicit drugs, establishment of Drug free clubs in schools across the state ,erection of rehabilitation centers in the State where they counsel both of the drug users and the delears to removing them from drug hook, maintained that the issue of drug abuse is a serious challenge to every right thing Nigerian.

He stated that the drug abuse among youths was very rampant in the contemporary Nigeria ,ehence the high increase in prostitution in the major cities across the country and called for a water tight collaboration between NDLEA and NOA as well as other relevant agencies in Nigeria in the fight against the dreaded monster in the society.

Mr Idris, who also observed that many Nigerians are ignorant of the laws prohibiting the use of illicit drugs, emphasised that the people need to be well informed on the inherent dangers of illicit drugs, adding that the current day Nigerian is expecting a responsible youths that would take over the affairs of the country tommorow.

Briefing the Commander on the motives behind the visit, the State Director NOA, Barrister Nwoji, said that the visit was not a mistake, though, it was over due, stressing that essence of the visit was to reignite the spirit of the mutual relationship between the two sister agencies in the state.

Barrister Nwoji, who recalled that NOA in the State had a rubost relationship with the immediate past Commander of the Agency in the State, Mr. Sule Mamood, said that NOA has before today perfected plans to carry out a sensitization programme on illicit drug abuse and gender base violence in collaboration NDLEA at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus before the attack of the Coronsvirus pandemic in the Country.
Barrister Nwoji, who said that he came to fraternize with the new NDLEA Commander in the State as a head of a federal agency also ,acguinted the Commander with the work schedules of NOA with particular reference to attitudinal change, describing drug abuse and other drug related vices as allian and a serious disturbance to Nigerian Society.

He solicited the collaboration of the NDLEA in the execution of the human oriented programmes of NOA in its frantic efforts to ensure the reduction of the drug abuse, sexual and gender base violence in the State to a barest minimum.

Barrister Nwoji, emphasised that NOA is planing to continue with its Primary and Secondary schools sensitization programme on exam -malpractice, cultism, drug abuse and gender base violence in the State as normalcy has returned after the EndSARS crisis and the Students settle down properly for their 2020/2021 academic year in the State.
