Nigerians have been reminded that the choice of the type of leaders and leadership in the country is in their hands especially now the general elections are at the corner.

In a homily during the Good Shepherd Sunday Holy Mass today at the Outstation of the Assumption Catholic Church, Awka, Rev. Fr. Dr. Basil Ucheonye lamented that Nigeria is currently at crossroads economically and sociopolitically due to bad leadership.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Ucheonye reiterated that as Jesus Christ demonstrated “Good Shepherdship”, Christians all over should not only be ready to offer quality leadership at all levels but champion the course of choosing leaders who are sincere and ready to make the needed sacrifice that would bring peace, unity, progress and stability in Nigeria.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Ucheonye maintained that Nigerian society required good leadership that would bring holiness, economic success and political liberty, adding that a Nation with stable and development indices is a Nation with visionary and proactive leaders.

The Servant of God decried a situation where Nigerian political leaders inflicted economic woes on the populace and take advantage of that during elections to perpetuate poverty and hardship in the land.

He called on all well-meaning Nigerians especially the people of Southeast Zone to be adequately prepared for the 2023 general elections, urging them to secure their voters’ cards, and use them wisely to search and enthrone genuine leaders who have the competence and capability to change the tide of events in the Nigeria society.
