Chief Chijioke Okpalaugo the newly government appointed caretaker chairman of Onitsha main market has assumed office together with his entire executive at the white house the official head quarters of Onitsha Main market traders union Onitsha last Tuesday.
Speaking to newsmen immediately after a prayer session to herald his administration in the market, Chief Okpalaugo while expressing thanks to Gov. Chukwuma Soludo the governor of Anambra for giving him an opportunity together with his executives to serve the market who is the biggest market in West Africa noted that he will give security maintenance a top priority stressing that he will do much to ensure that the market is adequately protected. He stated that apart from this, that other areas he is going to give attention are building of a perfect synergy between the market traders and state government on payments of revenues, taxations etc. Other areas he also said he is going to tackle head long is the issue of sit tight syndrome of most line chairmen in the market explaining that will make sure that any line chairman who has overstayed will be made to vacate his chair and conduct a new election for a new person to come on board Said he, “Am going to ensure that all manners of impunities are stop, I will fight corruption, no matter whoever that is involved or organization, I will adopt an open door policy, if anybody is aggrieved, he or she is free to come to my office and see me for such problem to be resolved immediately, I will also establish an ICT center for any trader of the market who is interested to learn ICT to come up and learn free of charge”.Speaking also Hon. Chukwudi Omaliko the new secretary of the market said that they are going to run an open door policy and will not favour any person while taking decisions that concerns the market.While also thanking Gov. Soludo for giving them opportunity to serve, he solicited for the cooperation of the traders saying they are there to serve them.Adding his voice, Pastor. Uche Emefo coordinator main market prayer group thanked Gov. Soludo for appointing the new executive of the market saying that he is optimistic that they will pilot the affairs of the market with fear of God.
