The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated farm input comprising seeds/seedlings, knapsack sprayers and agrochemicals to over 4,390 farmers in Anambra State

They were donated at the weekend to farmers affected by the 2018 flood.

NEMA’s Director-General Muhammadu Muhammed said the intervention was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 under the Emergency Agricultural Intervention programme.

According to him, 50,967 bags of 50kg NPK fertilisers were required after verification, of which 36,000 bags had been delivered to the state.

Of this number, 29,097 bags have been distributed to farmers in six councils of Ayamelum, Ihiala, Awka North, Orumba North, Anambra East and Anambra West.

“6,903 bags will be distributed to farmers in Ogbaru starting Saturday, while the 14,967 remaining bags are being processed and would be delivered soon.

This distribution is the final phase of the Federal Government assistance to farmers to enable them recover from the losses suffered,” he added.

Secretary to the State Government Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu praised the Federal Government for the gesture, and appealed for early release of such interventions.
