NASEMA, LEMA collaborate for effective disaster management.

The Nasarawa state Emergency Management Agency ( NASEMA) in collaboration with traditional rulers and other relevant stakeholders in the state have taken steps on how best to managed disasters of varying degrees.
In a Two days workshop on Effective Emergency Preparedness and Response in Nasarawa,governor ,Engineer Abdullahi Sule ,represented by the state deputy governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe,said he was convinced that the workshop will provide stakeholders the desired technics required to control and managed disasters in the state.
Governor Sule posited that it is pertinent to state that disaster has become part of human day to day experience,as recorded all over the world, ranging from wildfire,marketfire,floods, earthquake, communal clashes among others.
” It is for these reasons that it becomes imperative to evolved measures towards mitigating these ocvurances of this phenomenon.
” In our determination to reduced the impact of disaster.calls for sensitisation of the people,to be with adequate information on how to manage the situation incase of any eventuality” He said.
The governor pointed out that the event was apt and timely,inview of its devastating effect on socio economic development of the society.
He added that the workshop will afford and equipped stakeholders with the requisite knowledge and measures at which they can prevent and manage communities and their assets.
” As you are aware Nasarawa State like any state has witness dire consequences on human lives ,farmlands ,public infrastructure.
” Let me add here that the state is facing other Environmental challenges informed by Mining activities, deforestation and polution as a result indiscriminate waste disposal among others” He said.
The governor further pointed out that it was for such reason that government in recent times embarked on mass sensitization and awareness campaign , especially in local government levels and in some flash point in the state that has enable the state to take precautionary measure at preventing disaster.
He urged stakeholders to be fully prepared towards addressing the menace of environmental and other related challenges in the state.
Engineer Sule’ in conclusion thanked and commended the federal ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management,National Metrological Agency for their support.
Earlier, Chairman Nasarawa State Management Agency (NASEMA), Zakari Alumaga said that the need for the workshop cannot be overemphasized considering that the state is crises and disaster prone.
The local governments have not been very much involved, and we want the local governments to have their own unit, what is called Local Government Emergency Management Agency (LGEMA)
so it covers all human problems ; education ,health , feeding, security of personality, security of food and water and so on.
