Nasarawa Shuts Down Popular Spot Over Noise Pollution

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed off Cyvillian Garden, a well-known relaxation venue on Abacha Road, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, due to excessive noise pollution. In a statement released on Friday, NESREA revealed that the action followed repeated complaints from residents and the facility’s failure to address the issue despite multiple warnings. Speaking on the closure, NESREA’s Director General, Dr. Innocent Barikor, represented by the Director of Inspection and Enforcement, Dr. Christopher Beka, explained: “We took every necessary step before resorting to sealing the facility. Noise readings taken at different times confirmed levels far beyond acceptable limits for a residential area. Abatement notices were issued as required by law, and an arbitration meeting was held where the facility was advised to comply with the National Environmental (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations, 2009.” He emphasized the seriousness of noise pollution and its impact on public health, stating, “It’s unacceptable for residents to be deprived of rest and peace because of disruptive noise. Businesses must not operate at the expense of others’ well-being.” Dr. Barikor reaffirmed NESREA’s commitment to enforcing environmental regulations nationwide and assured that similar actions would be taken across the country to ensure citizens enjoy a high quality of life.
