NAOWA empowers 280 widows, 5000 IDPs in July

The National President, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs Salamatu Yahaya, says the association has empowered more than 280 widows and 5,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across the country during the 2021 Nigerian Army Day.

Mrs Yahaya said this when she led the executive members of NAOWA on courtesy visit to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, on Thursday in Abuja.

She said the visit was to thank the army chief for the support given to NAOWA during the Army Day which enabled her to touch lives across the country.

NAOWA president appealed for more support to enable the organisation to sustain its humanitarian activities across formations and units of the Nigerian Army and bring succour to the less-privileged in the society.

She said that the association needed the backing of army authorities to achieve its objectives, adding that the support of Army Headquarters was inevitable.

The COAS wife prayed to God to give her husband the wisdom and strength to lead the Nigerian Army in the right direction.

She further appealed to the COAS to ensure the completion of the recently initiated NOAWA Wellness Centre inaugurated by the former National President of the Association, Mrs Fati Attahiru.

According to her, the centre when completed, will be dedicated to the late COAS and his wife.

Responding, the COAS, Lt.-Gen. Yahaya expressed gratitude to the National leadership and members of NAOWA for their visit, noting that their numerous humanitarian engagements had impacted positively on the lives of many less- privileged persons in the society.

Yahaya urged them to sustain the good work to enable them to contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of the nation.

He commended members of NAOWA for standing by their husbands and keeping the home front while their spouses engaged in service to the nation.(NAN)
