NANDRUM intensifies awareness on drugs abuse, trafficking

Doles award to Anambra drug merchants

In their bid to eradicate drug abuse, trafficking among youths, the National Association of Nigeria Drug monitoring ( NANDRUM) and joint committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on  Drugs and Narcotics, National Assembly in collaboration with National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) have presented one day lecture tagged ” Drug Abuse And Trafficking Implication In A Developing Economy”

The program which held in Onitsha, Anambra State, featured awards presentation to some distinguished drug dealers which included, Sunday Ogbonna, Ibeson, Ezekwueme Anthony and Emecheta Obinwa.

Presenting the awards, the National Secretary and Ambassador joint committee of Senate and House of Representatives, National Assembly on drugs and Narcotics, Dr. Christabel Regan Okoye noted that the award was to encourage them more on proper handling of drugs and also to empower them to aide in the sensitization of inherent danger in drugs abuse.

Dr, Okoye equally intimated the participants that home is the starting point of transforming children, just as she urged the Nollywood actors to refrain from producing films that might induce drug abuse.

While Okoye noted that drug abuse have eaten deep into the fabric of the society, she advised parents to warn their wards on the dangers of drug abuse and the need to desist from harbouring strangers in their homes.

A key note speaker at the event and liaison officer National Assembly joint committee on Narcotics and drugs, Oriasotia Idemudia heaped blames of drug abuse on the inability of parents to train their Children.

He attributed overzealousness in  quest for money which according to him could not allow parents to stay at home and train their Children, saying that money is good but  has caused more harm than good to the society.

” We all failed to control our Children because we are pursuing money. We worship money too much to the extent that nobody questions how money was made. The root cause of criminalities in the society is money,” he posited.

Also speaking, deputy zonal commander National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) zone L,  Mrs. Nneka Okafor unequivocally stated that Methamphetamine (Mkpulummili) has devastated youths of the nation and that all hands must be on deck to fight the monster in the society.

Similarly, ACP Emma Ogbuanya of police operation Awka explained that  the incessant activities of Boko Haram, kidnapping and terrorist attacks are acted under the influence of drug abuse.

Dignitaries at the event included, Chairman of youths director, diocese on the Niger, Venerable Mike Oko, liaison officer National Assembly,joint committee on Narcotics and drugs, Oriasotia Idemudia, Senior legislative Aide to House committee Chairman on Narcotics and drugs, Andrew Agbase, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Cp Echeng Eworo Echeng represented by Acp, Adewuji Babalola, Deputy zonal commander ( NDLEA) zone 1, Nneka Okafor represented Friday Akpara Esq, Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Ogechukwu Okpala represented by Pharm. Nwizu Victor, Acp Emma Ogbuanya represented police operation department, Awka, Youths leader diocese on the Niger, Ugwuoke Simon among others.
