Nando Community gets new monarch, promises to empower more youths

The newly installed monarch of Nando in Anambra East Local Government Area, HRH Igwe John Iwuno (IgweOjenamuo) has promised to empower more youths as he celebrated his maiden new yam festival after ascending the throne.

Igwe Iwuno also promised to attract more developmental projects from government, ensure security by empowering more youths and promote peace during his reign as the ruler of Nando community.

Iwuno made the promise during his coronation cum new yam celebration at his palace and country home saying that he registered 100 indigent persons with Anambra Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA).

He said thathe originally scheduled to celebrate new yam only for Nando elders to come that morning to crown him the Igwe Ojenamuo-who will be outgoing government recognized Traditional ruler.

According to Iwuno “Today, I was crowned king. Nando people approached me to be their Igwe Ojenamuo. After many persuasions I accepted only for a family to sue me.

“My installation as Igwe Ojenamuo was delayed due to the court case. God willing Igot victory in court on October 10, 2019. Earlier today Nando people came tocrown me.

“I had earlier scheduled to celebrate new yam today as a titled man but when Nando people decided to crown me today, we are using one stone to kill two birds.

 “I promise that in my reign Nando will live inpeace. I will not be a land speculating monarch. I will not embezzle community fund but rather invest my resources.

“I would continue to support the administration Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State who has brought lots of democracy dividends including securing lives andproperty of ndi Anambra.

“I will use my wealth to empower more youths as a panacea to unemployment and crime in my community. I registered 100 persons into ASHIA for 1 year free treatment”, said Iwuno.

However,Lolo Christiana Iwuno expressed joy that her community decided to crown her husband Igwe Oyibo due to his good will and philanthropy asking God for wisdom,health and protection.

In his Opening remark, the head Ojiana Nando, Chief Mathew Esedo said that the dual celebration include the coronation of the new Igwe Ojenamuo of Nando-John Iwuno urging everyone to support his reign.

“We thank God that today at Ama-Nsokwe Agbudu, the head of Nando, we have a new Igwe. Igwe Ojenamuo, Igwe Oyibo capable of representing Nando outside and attracting developments.

“We use to have Igwe or Eze Odibeha custodians of traditional rites and deity that is different from the prestigious Capital or Outgoing Igwe that will be our universal representative.

“John Iwuno used his resources to bring many human and capital developments to Nando. So, Nando people including Ndiichie; Irunano; Ojiani; Nze ama-male and female; Youths; Ikenga, Ezi and Ifite decided to crown him”, said Esedo.

Igwe George Ekwealor of Umuoba-Anam while felicitating with Iwuno advised him to pursue peace irrespective of any aggrieved persons urging him to run an inclusive leadership which brings peace and progress.

Igwe Ntoka Victor of Nsugbe, 2018 yam 1^st prize winner at Ekwueme square eulogized Governor Obiano’s achievements in the agricultural sector with reference to therecent inauguration of Coscharis Rice mill.

Moreover, Chief Bartholomew Nnakee said the Nando community was jubilating that God hasgiven them a capable educated young Igwe to represent them at government andattract democracy dividends.

Great Nando Ladies led by Mrs. Cecilia Akwuobi; Anyafulugo Women Association led by Mrs. Ijeoma Nwabunwanne; Chinameze Group led by Ogolo Anago were present to pay homage with the new monarch.

Former Anambra East transition council members led by Hon Fabian Iwuoba(Leader), BeatriceOnuorah (Deputy Chairman) Deacon Julius Udekwe (Secretary) among otherdignitaries were also present to celebrate with Igwe Iwuno.

Highlightsof the occasion include celebration of Mass, cutting and eating of new yam asdirected by Igwe Iwuno and, cultural dances.
