NABDA D-G honoured for excellence in biotech innovation, patriotism

Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, Director-General of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), has been honoured with outstanding excellence in biotechnology innovation, safety icon and patriotism award by the Nigerian News.

A statement by his Press Secretary, Mrs Toyin Omozuma, on Sunday in Abuja, stated that the award was in recognition of Mustapha’s exemplary leadership and contributions to biotechnology development in Nigeria.

Omozuma said that the award was presented to him at the sixth Anniversary Awards/ Honours Symposium of the media conglomerate by Chief Audu Ogbe, former minister of Agriculture, in Abuja.

According to her, Ogbe, who was also the Guest Speaker at the event, said Nigeria is searching for excellence and patriotic ideals.

He said, “ There is no doubt that there are few categories of personalities and actors whose conduct generally depicts our frameworks and success most glaring.’’

The Publisher and CEO of the Nigerian News, Chief Philip Agbese, stated that patriotism was the guiding principle of their work and that the recognition and honour given to the awardee was in upholding high standards.

According to the Press Secretary, Omozuma, “Mustapha was found worthy along with other awardees and had demonstrated high level of commitment in moving Nigeria forward.

In his remarks, awardee Mustapha said that it was a very exciting moment for him as a person.

“The reason for making such a statement is because a lot of people have been showing interest to give me award, but I turned them down.

“This is because many of the awards that are being given nowadays are more or less purchased awards,’’ Mustapha added.

He, however, said that the he preferred an award based on merit, adding that he never knew the Nigerian News when he was nominated for the award. (NAN)
