Moughalu, Umeh, Okpala , others commend Editors of the Book ‘Contemporary Issues On COVID-19 Experience In Nigeria’

Six Editors of a new book on ” Contemporary Issues on Covid-19 Experiences in Nigeria” led by Prof N. M Umenweke received outstanding commendation and ovation for documenting the Covid-19 experiences in a novel book.

Other Editors of the book include Prof Alumona Ikenna, Madubueze Madumelu KC, Nwankwo Justin.O, PhD, Ekesiobi Chukwunonso. S, and Etodike Nelson CE PhD from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (UNIZIK) and Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).

The book has twenty-seven chapters and four hundred and fourteen pages. It was written by Congress of COVID-19 Research Network at the Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Universities.

It attracted contributions from Academic across institutions including Professor Angela Nwammuo and former Information Commissioner, Anambra state, Chief Tony Onyima among other.

Leading in the commendation of the colloborative work of coming up with scientific document on people’s lives during COVID-19 pandemic era was the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala.

Dr Okpala who was the book Reviewer commended the Editors and contributors for coming up with the scientific work which according to him was timely, even as he added that the book will be useful in future response to similar health issues.

The event took place at the Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

In a keynote address, the UNDP Special Envoy on Covid-19 Development Finance for Africa and a former Deputy Governor of Central Bank, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, OON, noted that COVID-19 attacked the fundamental aspects of human characteristics, suggested that the book be published internationally for global impact.

Prof Moughalu who did the forward of the book called on leaders to learn from economic and other impacts of the pandemic, so as to prepare Nigerians for any similar pandemics.

In line with the commendation, the Chairman on the occasion and former Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Victor Umeh commended government’s efforts at stemming the tide of the pandemic, said Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Universities have done great in their scholarly efforts.

The Editor-in-Chief of the book, Professor Meshach Umenweke, said the outbreak of the pandemic gathered members of the academia and community in research institutions together to put up timely academic interjection for a documented reviewable data, statistics, experiences and exposures, adding that its findings provide in-depth knowledge on records of events, challenges endured, and anticipated future changes in human life and coping strategies against the trend.

Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof Charles Esimone FAS and Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam,Prof Greg C Nwakaoby were host and Guest of honour respectively while the Anambra State Speaker , Rt.Hon Uche Okafor was Special guest of honour.

Governor Willie Obiano was the Chief Host while the roles of Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 were recognized.
