Mechanic bags 6 months imprisonment for stealing car battery
A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, sentenced a 38-year-old mechanic, Onuche Christopher, to six months imprisonment for stealing a car battery valued at N175,000.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced Christopher after he pleaded guilty to the charge of theft without an option of fine.
“You are hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment and without an option of fine.
“The sentence would serve as a deterrent to others who might want to engage in similar acts,” he said.
At the arraignment, the convict pleaded guilty and pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing him.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the convict committed the offense on May 26 at Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna.
He said that the convict stole the battery from a Toyota Corolla car belonging to one Mrs Sarah Williams.
The offense, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 271 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State.(NAN)
