The Nigerian comedian based in the United Kingdom, Obioma Macvicky, popularly known as MC Parrot Mouth, has criticsed the Nigerian education system, describing it as confusing and overly focused on obtaining university certificates.

Speaking during an interview with Gbam Interview, the comedian questioned the relevance of some academic courses in UNIZIK, a Nigerian university, arguing that students are often made to take numerous courses that are unrelated to their chosen fields of study.
According to him, it is unnecessary for a first-year student in UNIZIK to take as many as 13 courses, especially when some of them are only “borrowed courses.”

He said, “The system of education in Nigeria is just confused and scattered.”
MC Parrot Mouth also questioned the connection between university education and employment opportunities, noting that some graduates end up working in fields unrelated to what they studied.
“I have seen a person who studied Pharmacy and ended up selling beers in a bar,” he said.

Reflecting on his time at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), he described his university experience as challenging but entertaining, recalling the presence of c¥lt activities and students who preferred to keep to themselves.

He also spoke about entertainment and publicity during his time at the university, saying it was easier to gain publicity at the time.

The comedian further argued that Nigeria’s education system needs significant reform to make university education more relevant to students and the realities of the job market.
