Malaria Consortium trains supervisors for Mosquito Nets Distribution in Idemili South

Anambra State Ministry of Health(ASMOH) in collaboration with Give-Well Malaria Consortium, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) has commenced training of personnel that will supervise the distribution of Insecticidal Treated Nets (ITN) in Idemili South.

Speaking at Ojoto, the Malaria Focal Person for ASMOH in Idemili South, Mrs Loretta Olisa said that the Campaign for Roll back Malaria aimed at preventing malaria infection, fever and death begins with sleeping under ITN.

According to Mrs. Olisa, “we are here today to train ‘Distribution hub Supervisors’ who will issue the ITN to Cluster Distributors who in turn will issue the ITN to those who will Distribute the ITNs from door to door of every household in communities.”

“This campaign began last week at Awka with ‘Train the Trainers’. Distribution Hub Supervisors’ workshop holds today and tomorrow. Cluster Supervisors/ distributors workshop will also hold onThursday and Friday.

“We shall also invite ‘Mobilization Distribution Team’ who will go from house to house to distribute the nets for training and sensitization on how to educate every household on the proper way to use the ITN.

“The Local government store keepers will not be left out in the training because our Nets need to be properly taken care of before they get into the hands of the household users.

Mrs Olisa said that the batch by batch trainings would continue until August 6, 2022 which is the Flag Off day for ‘ Distribution of Insecticidal Treated Nets in every Household in Anambra.

“The ITN Distribution Flag Off for Idemili South communities will take place at Oba Civic center.

“The actual implementation cum door to door Distribution of ITN will begin from August 7th and continue until August 17, 2022. The ratio is one net for two persons, two nets for three or four persons per household,” said Mrs Olisa.

She further advised people who avoid sleeping under treated nets claiming it makes them perspire to have a rethink.”it is better to perspire than to be infected or die of Malaria the major cause of death in Nigeria”.

Moreover, one of the Give-Well Malaria Consortium facilitators, Ms Faith Eze said that the NGO was in Anambra to replace the ITN the organization donated about four years ago.

” The ITN has life span of about three to four years after which it becomes due for replacement. We are here because we intend to help prevent Ndi Anambra from malaria and its consequences.

However, the duo of Mr Godwin Eze and Mr Boniface Onunkwo in there respective speeches thanked ASMOH and the NGO for sponsoring the Roll back Malaria Campaign.

The trainees pledged to abide by the stipulated guidelines towards effective and efficient Distribution of the ITNs to various households in the communities.(MOI)
