Former Governor of Anambra State, and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has raised alarm over alleged bureaucratic bottlenecks in voter registration in the South-East geo-political zone.

Obi who raised the alarm in a tweet Thursday, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to as a matter of urgency, clear up the impediments.

The Labour Party presidential hopeful wrote on his verified Twitter handle: “Information reaching me indicate that voter registration across Nigeria, more so in the South-East, is dogged by inertia & bureaucratic bottlenecks. I respectfully call on @inecnigeria to facilitate speedy registration of Nigerians to enable them exercise their voting rights.-PO.”

In a related development, Ikengaonline reports that INEC headquarter in Anambra State has continued to witness heavy crowd of citizens who troop in to register for voter’s card.

The large crowd witnessed on daily basis in recent days in the state may not be unconnected with the June 30 deadline announced by INEC for the exercise ahead of the 2023 general election.

Ikengaonline Correspondent who visited the INEC headquarter at noon on Thursday met a long queue of individuals outside the premises of the Commission waiting to be allowed in.

Hundreds of others were seen at the centre of the CVR exercise within the premises waiting to be attended to.

However, INEC officials on ground attributed the long queues to last minute rush by intending registrants.

Ikengaonline had further reported that the official figures released by INEC in their nationwide CVR weekly updates do not seem to reflect the renewed rush of intending voters in the South-East.
