Landlord docked over alleged misconduct

The police, on Thursday, arraigned a 53-year-old landlord, Mr Kabiru Afolabi, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over an alleged misconduct.

Afolabi, whose residential address was not provided, was charged with conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, Insp Philip Amusan, told the court that Afolabi committed the offence on Nov. 22 at about 10. 00 a.m. at Oke-Itunu area of Ibadan.

Amusan said that the defendant, who is a landlord, collected the sum of N220,000 rent from one Mohammed Aliu, but failed to provide the apartment.

He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by refusing to refund the money to the complainant after several requests from him.

The offence, according to him, contravenes Section 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mr I.O. Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case till Jan. 8, 2024 for hearing.
