foodstuff traders and consumers are expressing their delight over the recent drop in beans prices. In interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday, residents shared their excitement about the decline after months of steady price increases. A 100kg bag of beans, which had reached as high as N150,000 due to shortages, has now dropped to around N100,000 to N120,000, depending on the variety. Mr. Yakubu Ahmed, a trader at Agege market, explained that the price reduction followed a fresh harvest of beans from the North. He highlighted that prices for different varieties, such as honey beans and drum beans, have decreased by about N3,000 to N5,000 per paint bucket. Although the reason for the price drop remains unclear to some traders, Mr. John Nwabueze at Iyana-Ipaja market expressed hope that prices would remain stable during the holiday season. Consumers like Mrs. Cornelia Edet and Mrs. Sandra Obalelenge also shared their relief, noting that the price drop had allowed them to buy more beans at lower prices. While they remain cautious of future price fluctuations, they are thankful for the temporary respite.
