Several kidnapped victims have escaped from their captors in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. On Thursday, the Chairman of Ukum LGA, Jonathan Modi, received the victims in Zaki Biam. They revealed that they were abducted on December 27 and endured severe hardships, including prolonged periods without food. This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Assistant on Media & Communications to the Chairman, Samuel Atsua, who noted that Modi expressed deep concern for their well-being. The victims were immediately taken to a hospital for urgent medical attention due to their fragile health conditions. Modi urged residents of Ukum to embrace peace and align with the initiatives of Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese, Most Rev. Fr. Isaac Dugu. “It is disheartening that, despite ongoing peace efforts, some individuals continue to inflict suffering on their own people—mothers, fathers, and brothers,” he said. He warned perpetrators to desist from such acts, emphasizing that both the law and divine justice would hold them accountable. Reaffirming his commitment to restoring peace and security in Ukum, he called on residents to unite against criminal activities.
