Kebbi Police Arrest Two Suspects for Alleged Murders

The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended two individuals in connection with separate murder incidents in Shanga and Zuru Local Government Areas. Command spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar, in a statement on Friday, outlined the details of the cases. On December 31, 2024, around 8:00 PM, Yunusa Haruna, 25, from Bakin Turu village in Shanga LGA, was arrested for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death. The altercation reportedly involved a sharp knife. Officers from the Shanga Divisional Police Headquarters acted swiftly, leading to Yunusa’s arrest. In another incident on January 8, 2025, Abubakar Umar, 25, from Jarkasa in Zuru LGA, was taken into custody for allegedly stabbing Mohammed Bala in the head during a disagreement, resulting in Bala’s death. Umar also reportedly injured Mohammed’s younger brother, Sama’ila Bala, during the altercation. Officers from the Zuru Divisional Police Headquarters promptly arrested Umar. Reacting to the cases, Commissioner Bello Sani expressed concern over the violence and urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully. He encouraged reporting grievances to appropriate authorities rather than resorting to violence. The Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into both incidents. The suspects will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
