Kano launches Nigeria’s first mobile motor licence centre

The Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) has unveiled Nigeria’s first-ever mobile motor licence centre, equipped with a cutting-edge digital Motor Licence Office.

The centre was launched during KIRS Day at the 45th Kano International Trade Fair by KIRS Executive Chairman, Dr. Zaid Abubakar.

He highlighted that the initiative, introduced under Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration, is aimed at simplifying revenue payment processes and boosting the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

The mobile IT-driven system allows vehicles to be registered anywhere, anytime, addressing common challenges faced by motorists.

Muhammad Aliyu, the Executive Director of Compliance and Enforcement Group, noted that two mobile centres are operational, with plans to expand coverage across the state.

Earlier, the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, inaugurated an 18-member committee to oversee the second phase of the Postgraduate Scholarship Programme, aimed at supporting 1,001 first-class graduates in pursuing master’s degrees at top public and private universities across Nigeria.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the initiative is part of the governor’s vision to provide world-class educational opportunities for Kano’s youth.

The scholarship programme is designed to empower the brightest minds in the state, allowing them to compete on a global scale.

Governor Yusuf, represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and youth empowerment. “When we launched the 1001 Scholarship Scheme, our vision was to empower Kano’s brightest minds to compete globally, excel in their fields, and bring their expertise back home to drive the progress of our state,” he said.

He emphasized that today’s event reflects the government’s dedication to providing exceptional educational opportunities for the youth of Kano.
