Joining yahoo a sure path to failure – Mefor

Lawrence Nwimo, Awka
Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, has cautioned youths in Anambra against engaging in internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo yahoo”, warning that it is a sure path to failure in life.
Mefor gave the warning in Awka, during an event to commemorate the 2025 International Day of the Boy Child. The event, themed “Boys Today, Great Men Tomorrow”, was organized by the Anambra State Civil and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) in collaboration with E-KEEPAS ENTERPRISE.
The Commissioner, who chaired the occasion, advised teenagers, particularly secondary school boys, to shun internet fraud, emphasizing that it is a shortcut to nowhere.
“A young boy that wants to succeed must not join yahoo yahoo because it is a recipe for failure. There’s no shortcut to wealth without hard work. Internet fraud leads to nowhere but failure. Hard work, wisdom, and fear of God are the principles that guide every Igbo man to greatness. Achieving wealth requires dedication and hard work,” Mefor said.

Delivering his keynote address, Dr Akachukwu Maduakonam admonished young men to face the realities of their lives and work for self development, rather than engaging in vices that could lead to mistakes, self and carer destruction.
Executive Assistant to the Anambra State Governor on Women and Children Affairs, Mrs Hope Okoye, cautioned boys to desist from any act that could ruin their names and future, reminding them the popular Igbo saying: “a good name is better than money.”
Okoye encouraged the students to take their studies seriously and disregard the misconception that education is worthless. She also urged them to uphold the principles of integrity, speak up for what is right, and protect their integrity from being compromised.
The President of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Youths Wing, Mr. Ken Okoli, attributed Nigeria’s problems to citizens’ failure to take responsibility. He advised the younger generation to cultivate a sense of responsibility early in life and to seek mentorship to achieve their aspirations.
Others who spoke at the event including the MD Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, kryss Molokwu emphasized the importance of parents playing a proactive role in nurturing the boy child’s potential. They also encouraged them to take ownership of their responsibilities and guide their children towards achieving their life goals.

Earlier, the Managing Director of ANCISRO, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, explained that the event was designed to guide boys on the path to becoming responsible men who can contribute meaningfully to society.
He reiterated that the event aligns with the Anambra State Civil and Social Reformation Office’s (ANCISRO) agenda to reform individuals, youths, and the society at large.
E-KEEPAS Enterprise, Communication Officer, Ukpa Ewa, said the event reinforces the importance of nurturing and guiding the boy child with care and intention towards actualisation of individual a d societal goals.
