Jobless men docked for allegedly attacking 2 police officers

The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned an unemployed man, Joseph Ayorinde, for  allegedly assaulting two police officers. Ayorinde, who resides at 22, Bayo Ajayi St., Ojodu, Lagos, is facing two-count charge of assault and grievous harm, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecutors, Insp Segun Oke, told the court that the defendant committed the  offences on June 12 at Alausa  area of Lagos. Oke said that the defendant fought Insp Ahmed Wada and Insp Lawrence Adedoyin for trying to arrest him for disturbing the peace in a public place.

He said that the defendant bit Adedoyin  and caused him grievous harm and injured Wade’ eye. “The defendant dealt roughly with the police officers doing their lawful duty,” the prosecutor said. He said that the offences  contravened Sections 173 and 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The Magistrate, Mrs M. C Ayinde, granted the defendant bail in the sum  of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. Ayinde adjourned the case until Aug. 31 for mention.(NAN
