INEC Urges CSOs to Monitor Party Primaries, Address Vote-Buying

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on civil society organisations (CSOs) to extend their monitoring efforts to political party primaries to curb vote-buying and electoral malpractices. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the appeal during a consultative meeting in Abuja, emphasizing that CSOs’ oversight should not be limited to general elections. He noted that reports of financial inducements during delegate selection require urgent scrutiny. Yakubu also provided updates on the upcoming Anambra governorship election and the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, urging stakeholders to adhere to the electoral timetable.
