INEC has urged security agencies to intensify planning, deployment, intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination ahead of the Feb. 21 FCT area council elections and by-elections in Rivers and Kano.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said effective security is key to preventing vote buying, thuggery and violence, and ensuring the safety of voters and officials, citing the Anambra off-cycle election as a benchmark.

He also called for early security engagement for upcoming Ekiti and Osun governorship polls, the 2027 general elections, and INEC’s planned voter revalidation exercise.
