INEC Schedules November 2025 for Anambra Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated the Anambra State governorship election for November 8, 2025. This was confirmed by INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, during a meeting with political party representatives in Abuja on Thursday.

Yakubu noted that the last governorship election in Anambra State took place on November 6, 2021, and the tenure of the current administration is set to expire next year. As a result, the commission has finalized arrangements for the 2025 governorship election to hold on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

A formal notice of the election will be published on November 13, 2024, as required by the electoral timetable.

Political parties are expected to conduct their primaries between March 20 and April 10, 2025, Yakubu stated. He further announced that the candidate nomination portal will be accessible from 9:00 a.m. on April 18, 2025, and will close at 6:00 p.m. on May 12, 2025. The final list of candidates will be made public on June 9, 2025.

Yakubu also outlined that political campaigns in public would officially commence on June 11, 2025, and will continue until midnight on Thursday, November 6, 2025. He added that a comprehensive Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Anambra governorship election would be available on INEC’s website and social media platforms following the meeting. Hard copies of the schedule will also be provided to political party representatives.

In related news, INEC has announced that the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election has begun. The commission expressed satisfaction with the process, which commenced on October 17, 2024.

For the next five days (October 17-21, 2024), PVCs will be distributed at the 203 wards across Ondo State. Afterward, from October 23 to October 29, 2024, the collection will shift to INEC’s 18 Local Government Area offices within the state. Voters can collect their PVCs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily during the stipulated periods.

This distribution is part of the preparations for the governorship election in Ondo, ensuring eligible voters can participate in the electoral process.
