INEC Reassures Nigerians Of Hitch Free Guber Polls, State Assembly Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reassured Nigerians of a hitch free governorship and State House of Assembly election this Saturday

Its chairman ProfessorMahmood Yakubu who gave the assurance at a meeting with all the thirty-six State Resident Electoral Commissioners at the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters in Abuja, said, the BIVAS will be used for the elections, adding that the devices are being reviewed to avoid a repeat of the glitches recorded in February twenty-fifth Presidential and National Assembly elections.

He noted that the deployment of BIVAS has gone a long way to sanitize voter accreditation as was seen from the result of recent elections saying that since last week, the Commission had intensified review of the technology to ensure that glitches experienced, particularly with the upload of results were rectified.

The Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman expressed confidence that the machines will perform optimally hence the meeting which he said was to review performances at last week’s elections, as there were lessons to be learnt, especially as it relates to management of logistics.

He urged the Resident Electoral Commissioners to work harder to ensure that the governorship election do not experience the same glitches recorded with the last elections, while calling for disciplinary action against members of staff who were negligent.
