INEC Boss Yakubu Defies Court Order, Evades Arrest Over Partial Compliance With AA Ruling
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has escaped arrest despite failing to fully comply with a Federal High Court ruling in Osogbo ordering the recognition of Adekunle Rufai Omoaje as Action Alliance (AA) National Chairman.
Justice Funmilola Demi-Ajayi had directed INEC to restore Omoaje and his full NEC to its portal, but the commission only reinstated state chairmen, omitting Omoaje’s name and the party’s secretariat address.
The judge had ordered the IGP to arrest Yakubu if he failed to comply within seven days, but no arrest was made.
AA’s Osun Chairman, Araoye Oyewole, filed a counter-affidavit on October 2, accusing INEC of deliberate partial compliance. The case remains in court amid concerns over INEC’s defiance of judicial authority.
