‎India’s ambition to become a developed nation by 2047 will mean little if its growth does not reach ordinary citizens, President Droupadi Murmu has said.

‎Delivering Murmu’s Independence Day message at the 80th Independence Day celebration in Abuja, the High Commissioner of India to Nigeria, Abhishek Singh, said the country’s Viksit Bharat vision rests on inclusive development, national security and stronger citizen participation.

‎Murmu highlighted what she described as major gains in poverty reduction and social welfare, saying more than 25 crore people had moved out of poverty, while nearly 59 crore had joined the banking system through the Jan Dhan Yojana, including more than 32 crore women.
‎
‎She also cited free food support for over 80 crore people and health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh for 60 crore citizens under Ayushman Bharat.
‎
‎On foreign policy, she reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace, dialogue and cooperation, alongside stronger representation for developing countries in global institutions.
‎
‎The President further urged Indians to protect the environment for future generations, stressing that the task of building a stronger and more inclusive India belongs to both citizens and institutions.
