In Anambra, traders union procures plots of land for members

Power Tools And Allied Products  Dealers Association, Bridge-Head Market Onitsha, Anambra State under the Chairmanship of Chief Sir. Sylvester Ahanaonu have procured plots of land and shared to the general members.

Briefing journalists in Onitsha shortly after sharing third phase of the plots to the members, the Chairman, Chief Sylvester Ahanaonu explained that the essence of procuring land for the Union members was part of his campaign promises during election that brought him into power.

He added that such gesture was to express mutual cooperation between the executives and the general members of the Union, pointing that the Union executives deemed it necessary for every member to have at least one plot of land after completing specified financial  requirements.

” Initially we pegged one plot of land at the rate of ₦ 1,550,000 but as time went on, it was increased to ₦2,000,000 due to the present economic situation of the country. But what we did was to ask members to make payments instalmentally until the whole amounts is cleared because we want everybody to have a plot of land and build house of their own” 

Chief Ahanaonu further disclosed that the total plots of land procured for the Union members was about 400 plots, noting that the Union has shared 200 plots for the first batch, 100 plots for the second batch and 94 plots for the third batch, respectively.

He also hinted that they procured the 400 plots at Oba in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State from about 8 different families which, he said, their land was used for Airport project by the State government and being compensated with another plots of land.

“We negotiated with about 8 different families in Oba who owns the land and paid them. They told us that the land was given to them as a compensation by the State Government; in place of their land converted to  State Airport. So, after everything, the certificate of occupancy ( C of O) of the whole plots would be one and bears the name of Power Tools And Allied Products Dealers Association. What we pledged to every members was that everybody must get a plot of land provided the person fulfilled the financial obligations.”

He appealed to those who are yet to receive their own plot to be patience, saying that acquisition of land assets is not all that easy, even as he advised those who have gotten their own to start developing  it.

Also speaking the Vice Chairman of the Association, Mr. Afam Marcel Ezechukwu praised those who paid but yet to collect due to dispute for their  patience, assuring them that the matter concerning the land is left for the Union executives and urged them to exercise patience.
